First Corinthians Part 17: Love
Manage episode 442913730 series 2998774
If you were asked what the foundation of Christian living is, what would be your answer? Some might say, “faith.” Some might say, “charity and good works.” Some might say other good things that are certainly in the Bible. But what if someone told you the foundation ought to be love? It seems counterintuitive. It seems too simple, too easy. Yet love is often the thing we lack the most. Jesus said in John 13:35 that the world will know we are truly His disciples by our love for one another. He didn’t say the world would know us by our charity, although that’s good. He didn’t say it would be our faith, knowledge, “spirituality,” the quality of our worship, or any other important aspect of our life in Christ. We are to be known by our love. It motivates everything else we do, and it ought to look so radically different compared to how the rest of the world “loves” each other. Does your love for others look radically different, or does it seem more like the world’s love?
