Today’s guest is Amal Ghandour. Amal is an author whose career spans more than three decades in the fields of research, communication, and community development. She is a senior Strategy Adviser to Ruwwad Al-Tanmeya, a regional community development initiative, a position she has held since 2009, she has been an adviser to Columbia University’s Global Centers, Middle East, sits on The Women Creating Change Leadership Council of Columbia University’s Center for the Study of Social Difference and more. In her upcoming memoir, “This Arab Life: A Generation’s Journey into Silence” Amal Ghandour reflects on her life as a privileged member of the “silent” Arab generation that came of political age in the 1980s, seeking clarity from a twin excavation of the self and the world that gave shape to it.
During this episode we discuss the common stereotypes surrounding Arab women, we talk about the importance of native Arab voices in narratives about the Arab world, how experiences shape our perspectives & her inspiration for her new book “This Arab Life”.
And the last message she wanted to share is “Be aware of yourself, of the moment, as there lies the key to vulnerability”
