Pat and Jim use the occasion of receiving the Word on Fire Bible to discuss the necessity of biblical literacy to understand Western civilization, art, and culture. They also consider the need to have a grasp on biblical ideas in order to understand sophisticated critiques of Christianity, such as Nietzsche's genealogy. They also discuss the importance of understanding and confronting Nietzsche as a philosopher.
