Listen like a baby!
Manage episode 294097110 series 2931064
This episode is an experiment. I'm not going to provide any text. Like a baby learning its first language, I just want you to listen and play with what you hear. Above all, remember that babies don't waste a second worrying about pronunciation, grammar, or any other grown-up stuff. They just listen and let their amazing brains do all the heavy lifting.*
So listen to this podcast and just let the words wash over you. If you're a beginner and the introduction is too fast to understand, who cares? Just listen to it all and then come back in a few weeks and listen again. No language student was ever harmed by listening as far as I know. And if you want to have a good accent, listening is THE key. Really. I promise.
*Heavy lifting means hard work. ("I let Robert do all the heavy lifting and I just give him advice now and then.)
P. S. Another very important reason for listening is that English spelling is soooooo bad! It's deceptive and full of irregularities. Think of words like "light" and "tough" and "bought" and "special" and "vain, vein, vane"--if I had more time I could make a list as long as all of English. Listen as much as possible to native speakers and keep reading and writing separate. Your accent will thank you.
P. P. S. Thanks to DeepL for translating my English text at the beginning of this podcast into Finnish and then Hungarian, and then reading it aloud in its computer voice.
Intro & Outro Music: La Pompe Du Trompe by Shane Ivers - https://www.silvermansound.com
