Tara Vossenkemper takes an accidental journey into private practice ownership, creating a culture of belongingness and purpose - only to discover that a healthy culture can increase employee retention and profitability.

"I don't want to work at a place that I don't like. I'm not interested in staying somewhere where I don't feel valued or supported or cared for as a human. Like, I don't want to be a cog in a wheel. I would like to be an active and integrated part of a larger system that has forward momentum in the direction that I also want to go."

Tara Vossenkemper is a mental health provider and the owner of a large group mental health practice. She has over 20 employees and has created a healthy team culture and a process to hire and onboard effectively. Tara is passionate about creating a culture of belongingness, vulnerability, and purpose in her practice, and has found joy in seeing her employees succeed. With consultation, she has been able to help more people create successful and healthy practices.

In this episode, you will learn the following:
1. The benefits of having a healthy culture in the workplace.
2. Practical strategies to cultivate a thriving workplace.
3. The role of an intentional hiring process to help attract your ideal employees.

About Tara Vossenkemper

Tara Vossenkemper, PhD, is the founder and owner of The Counseling Hub, an accidental group counseling practice in Columbia, Mo. Tara's first love was working with couples, where she specialized in those with poor conflict (toxic, excessive, or nonexistent) and/or on the brink of divorce. Once the practice took off, she dedicated more time to the admin side and found she loved that equally - creating and tweaking the dashboards, formalizing the structures, cultivating the culture, and thinking about the near-endless possibilities for creative growth.

Tara has since stepped into consulting in a more serious capacity, setting out to ensure that practice owners know both what they need to do and how to do it. Tara's favorite consulting-related topics center around tracking, culture, structure, and diagnosing core issues. In addition to practice consultation, Tara offers clinical consultation for couples and marriage counseling.

Tara has completed the three levels of Gottman Method Couples Therapy and is certified in Prepare/Enrich as a counselor and the PREP Approach as a facilitator. She has presented at state, regional, and national conferences on various topics including group and private practice growth, couples counseling, ethnic and racial discrimination, sexual minority distress, and spirituality.

On a personal note, Tara is known for her colorful language (#PuttingItNicely), love of The Office (#USVersion), neuroticism around dashboards (#FormulasAreLife), and hashtags (#AllDay). When she's not in the office, Tara can be found hanging out with her husband and two young sons, probably drinking a glass of red and wishing it was quiet enough to read.
