“That's taxpayer’s money that is going to support research and development and pilot projects to develop a food system that is based on environmental destruction and greed and disregard for animals, fish, and any of the other marine mammals that might be around it.” - Andrianna Natsoulas Andrianna Natsoulas is the campaign director for Don't Cage Our Oceans, an organization that exists to keep our oceans free from industrial fish farms. Offshore finfish farming is the mass cultivation of finfish in marine waters, in underwater or floating net pens, pods, and cages. Offshore finfish farms are factory farms that harm public health, the environment, and local communities and economies that rely on the ocean and its resources. Don’t Cage Our Oceans are a coalition of diverse organizations working together to stop the development of offshore finfish farming in the United States through federal law, policies, and coalition building. And, although it is not yet happening, right now the US Administration and Congress are promoting this kind of farming, which would be nothing short of disastrous for the oceans, the planet and the people and animals who live here. dontcageouroceans.org…

×On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former NFL receiver and NCAA QB, Bert Emanuel Sr. Before you read any further, please give us a follow/subscribe and leave us a 5 star review! While the college scene is getting ready for Bert Emanuel Jr to storm onto the scene, Bert Emanuel Sr. know a thing or two about what it takes to thrive on that scene. The former Rice QB wrote the blueprint that Charlie Ward used to win a Heisman before converting to a WR in the NFL. Without missing a beat he put together 4 prolific seasons with the Falcons to begin his career. Today Bert Sr. is a coach, an investor, a father and much more than a guy who has a rule named after him. Yes, of course we had to talk about THE RULE, but our conversation is much more than one play. Tim Grunhard talks NFL, Chiefs, and his new book, 'View from Center'. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by Chiefs Ring of Honor member, former 11 year Center for the team, Tim 'Grunny' Grunhard. Before you read any further, please give us a follow/subscribe and leave us a 5 star review! Kansas City got it right in 1990. When they draft 'Grunny' from Notre Dame in the second round they picked a man who would become a pillar for their organization for the next 30+ years. Tim made an immediate impact as a rookie and would string together an 11 year career, all with KC, that featured nearly 170 games played, including 164 starts. That was the 90's - what does he have to do with them today? Well, he is a KC area radio personality, in 2021 he was inducted into their Ring of Honor and just within the past few weeks he was in Germany as a KC Chiefs Ambassador with Dante Hall. The man is a lifer. Grunhard has recently added author to his long list of accomplishments. 'View From Center' is available for preorder now at www.timgrunhard.com. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by Hall of Fame wide receiver, Isaac Bruce. Before you read any further, please give us a follow/subscribe and leave a comment! 15,000+ receiving yards, 1,000+ receptions and nearly 100 TDs in a storied NFL career barely begins to tell the Isaac Bruce story. Fresh off of his Hall of Fame induction this summer, Isaac took the time to speak about his acceptance speech, his career and what he is focusing on today. The Isaac Bruce Foundation has been a staple for years and his Flight 300 program helps so many students on a yearly basis. Additionally, Smoosh Cookies ( Smooshcookies.com ) is his newest venture which we discuss as well. Enough cannot be said about Isaac’s approach to the game and life overall. The principles of his faith and his success are profound - it is my hope that this conversation helps begin to share those with everyone as we each embark on our journeys and chase our own successes. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former All-Pro defensive tackle, Pat Williams. Pat Williams played defensive tackle until he was nearly 40. Think about that. This career almost never happened. Pat went to two different JUCOs before making it onto the field at Texas A&M only to go undrafted. There aren’t 25 year old undrafted rookies in the NFL who make a roster once. Williams isn’t ordinary though. Insane quickness at an enormous frame under the tutelage of Bruce Smith and Ted Washington flourished. His last 4 years in Buffalo he was a force to be reckoned with. It wasn’t until his time in Minnesota where he became a household name making multiple Pro Bowls and an All-Pro nomination. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by Super Bowl Champ and former Green Bay Packer, Michael Montgomery II. Before you read any further, please give us a follow/subscribe and leave us a 5 star review! Michael Montgomery is a numbers guy. Playing defensive line he knew since high school which stats mattered and what his peers were doing. He figured if he could match what ‘the best’ in the state were doing then he would be ok. He was not wrong. Montgomery worked himself into a JUCO player, then an All-Conference player at Texas A&M and then the NFL - almost all of which with the Green Bay Packers. After a nice career that was capped with a Super Bowl, he has invested himself in film and now into his new podcast ‘The Undefeated’. - check it out on YouTube and wherever you listen to your other favorite podcasts like this one. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former two-sport athlete and NFL QB, Quincy Carter. Few people have ever possessed the athleticism Quincy Carter did. He pursued professional baseball for a few years out of high school before going to the University of Georgia to play quarterback. It took little time at all to see he was something special and was only continuing to improve. With that being said, Quincy did not re-write the history books in the NFL. Despite being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys and appearing in his third 3 season to be well on his way, all was not well beneath the surface. Ultimately it was a marijuana habit that derailed his Cowboys career, but more importantly it was the beginning of a spiral that Quincy has fought through ever since. Carter opens up about his life since playing in the NFL and where he is today. It is by no stretch an easy road to have gone from where he was in 2004 to where he proudly stands today. Quincy deserves the respect from all who will listen on achieving sobriety and fighting to make a positive impact in the world. In the near future (April 2022) he will be hosting a QB and WR camp. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by All-ACC offensive lineman and NFL prospect, Luke Tenuta Tenuta has been a steady force on the Virginia Tech offensive line for the last few seasons. It’s been quite the journey going from a high school defensive lineman, to redshirting, to eventually growing into the anchor of a top offensive line unit. The point of our conversation is to talk about the journey to get to this point. This conversation was recorded right after the East-West Shrine game while Luke preps for the NFL combine. It’s a special time in the journey where there is a gap to reflect on what has been and there is a future of endless possibilities. Luke has the capacity to help any of the 32 NFL teams, but the combine will (in part) determine how quickly the teams will call his name when the draft rolls around. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former General Manager of the Buffalo Bills and current XFL SVP, Doug Whaley , Darnerien McCants. Before you read any further, please give us a follow/subscribe and leave us a 5 star review! Doug is driven, not ambitious. He went from college football player into talent evaluator for the Seahawks and after 3 years of scouting he was off and running. It kicked off what would be over a decade long stint with the Steelers front office which prepared him to join Buffalo. In 2014 Doug took over as GM for the Buffalo Bills when Buddy Nix stepped down and he held that position through 2017. The Bills today have Whaley's finger prints all over them. Our conversation hit on roster building and his career, but we also briefly discussed his present and future with the XFL. Doug continues to make a difference in the football community as he helps the XFL prepare for a 2023 season. If you like this episode please share it with someone who you think will enjoy it! On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by All-PAC12 running back, Senior Bowl standout and NFL prospect, Rachaad White. 0 Division 1 offers. Rachaad was anything but a sure thing to be here today. Back in 2017 he went to DII Nebraska-Kearney and redshirted. After 2 years of JUCO football he was able to land at Arizona State where he gave the Sun Devils everything he had for 2 seasons (1 of course being a short COVID season). His unyielding drive and confidence propelled him into having a near 1,500 all-purpose yard senior season with 15 touchdowns. The performance landed him a spot in the Senior Bowl where he led all running backs in rushing yards. The now WIDELY known prospect is a threat to catch the ball, hurdle you or truck you making him perhaps the next Le’Veon Bell. Get a glimpse into the journey thus far as Rachaad gets ready for the NFL and if you like this episode please share it with someone who you think will enjoy it! On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former NFL Wide Receiver turned Coach, Darnerien McCants. Before you read any further, please give us a follow/subscribe and leave us a 5 star review! Not a Division 1 athlete, no combine invite - no problem. In 2001, 'Coach' was drafted in the 5th round after a 18 touchdown campaign as a senior at Delaware State. He spent the bulk of his career with the Washington Redskins as a receiver and special team contributor. His last NFL stop in the regular season with with the Philadelphia Eagles. McCants opens up about his journey through the league and navigating life after. Since 2009 he has worked as a coach with the youth. All-American, Jerreth Sterns, talks path to NFL Draft. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by athlete who just led all of the NCAA in receiving in 2021 (1,902 yards), Jerreth Sterns. Jerreth burst onto the scene this year at Western Kentucky University catching balls from another newcomer and star in Bailey Zappe. Was this a one year wonder? Not even close. Sterns spent 3 years at Houston Baptist where he caught balls from the same QB, Bailey, for those three seasons. Each and every year they improved until they decided to transfer and try to improve their NFL odds by playing DI. Safe to say, this gamble paid off wildly. Get a glimpse into the journey to get here at Sterns gets ready for the NFL. We talked just before the East-West Shrine Game which just conducted over this past week. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former UCF and NFL Wide Receiver, Mike Sims-Walker. In 2009 Mike Sims-Walker led the Jaguars in receptions and yards en route to finally showing the world he belonged on the biggest stage. The less obvious tale is his road to get there. As Sims-Walker puts it, at an early age he looked to his brother and father as role models in his best effort to not run with the wrong crowd. While knowing what he didn’t want, he found sports and created a path to somewhere he wanted to be. While at UCF he became a 2 time all conference player and earned the attention of scouts in the NFL. Before Mike had his 2009 campaign, he had overcome significant knee injuries. This includes after his junior year in college and the injury that made him missed all of the 2007 regular season among others. Determination and will power allowed him to work himself on top of the stat sheet before ultimately retiring due to lingering knee issues. 1 Baby Gronk opens up on football retirement, his true goals and why he's certain to achieve them 27:27
On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by football sensation, Baby Gronk (a.k.a. Madden San Miguel) and his father, Jake. Who is Baby Gronk? The short answer is a social media sensation who at 8 years old has already amassed a following of over 250k on Instagram. Since kindergarten he has consistently outplayed competition his age and multiple years older than him impressing professional athletes and celebrities alike. If there was ever a way to project a top recruit in the 2031 class, it would surely be Madden. Of course, this begs the question how does an 8 year old become famous on social media - surely he is not doing this all on his own. Enter Jake. Jake is Madden's father and he's the marketing architect behind this budding brand that has so much room to grow. It is by no mistake Madden has gained such a following. From the workout regimen and diet he stuck to for years, to the coaching and training, and even to the carefully picked nickname - there is careful planning behind every move. Moves that when added up may lead to one of - if not THE - largest NIL deals of all time. If you like this episode please share it with someone who you think will enjoy it! On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former former All-American and National Champion, Javier Arenas. Javier Arenas was electric on defense and as a returner for Alabama as Nick Saban began to dominate the college football world. From there Javier would go on to play in the NFL primary for the Chiefs, Cardinals and Falcons. While his playing days came to and end, his love for football did not. Arenas spent 2018-2020 as an analyst for the Crimson Tide. He spent the time to see what goes into building championship teams from the coaching side at the very same place where he learned to play at an elite level. In his first year away from the team, Javier is now establishing himself as a coach and mentor in the Tampa area. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former NFL Offensive Lineman and Counselor/Consultant, Bob Newton. Bob Newton was an All-American football player at Nebraska and played 12 years of professional football. Throughout his playing days, Bob drank like many of his teammates did. Overtime though, Newton began to drink more frequently. Eventually it began to effect his on the field performance and ultimately it helped end his football career. While that could sound like a sad story, it actually allowed for Bob to find his true calling in life. As Papa Fig surrendered to his alcoholism and went to rehab, a fire was lit in him to not only get help but be a force to help others through substance abuse. Newton has been working in chemical dependency professionally for over 30 years with an untold number of lives saved. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by longtime NFL Coach and former player, Terry Robiskie. Coach Robiskie is one of the best to ever do it. He came into the league as a running back playing for John Madden’s Raiders before playing for Shula’s Dolphins. He wasted no time and the next season he was back with Raiders under Tom Flores. From 1982 through 2020, coach was employed in the NFL for 39 consecutive seasons. Including his career as a player, that is 44 years in the NFL. It’s an incredible privilege to speak to a man whose wealth of knowledge is second to none. Terry speaks about his career, covering some of what he learned through his thoughts on never being a head coach. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former NFL Defensive Player of the Year and Cleveland Browns legend, Jerry Sherk. Jerry played 12 years in the NFL (1970-1981) all with the Cleveland Browns. This former defensive lineman was an All-American wrestler who grew into a 4 time Pro Bowl player and eventual Defensive Player of the Year. A devastating staph infection in 1979 would be beginning of the end of a storied football career - but more importantly - it would allow something else to begin. Sherk pursued photography professionally for 10 years after his football career ended. After that he turned the page to mentorship where today he still works to make a difference with Mentor Management Systems. He has put the master degree he earned in psychology to good use with helping athletes transition into other careers among many other areas of professional concentration in the mentorship realm. On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former NFL Wide Receiver, Greg Camarillo. How many guys go from college walk-on punter to starting NFL Wide Receiver? Greg proved through hard work (and a couple of breaks) it's possible. Camarillo landed a work out with the San Diego Chargers and from there the pro career started. It launched a 8 year career that left a memorable moment for all Dolphins fans when Greg caught the OT game winner to help them avoid a winless season back in 2007. Today Greg is now in his 7th year at Student Athlete Development at the University of San Diego. He took little time deciding on a second career and he has continued to make a difference for student-athletes. It's great to see someone who reached the pinnacle in on the field continue to strive for excellence in another field with the same drive.
