Joining me on this episode is the amazing Christina Hizon, who goes by the name of Tina Keys. Tina is an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist who has played for the likes of Ed Sheeran, Clean Bandit, Roger Taylor, Becky Hill... but I think most notoriously Maisie Peters. Right after this episode Tina jetted off to the US to tour with Maisie and will be on the road until SEPTEMBER so I am so glad I could catch her in time to record this. We had a brilliant chat about the live industry, how to create a click track, the 'secret' of how to get repeatedly booked for gigs with A List artists and how much harder it is since Brexit to tour outside of the UK. If you enjoyed this episode, you can follow us on social media & listen to previous episodes in this series here . Huge thanks to Tina for coming on and thank you for listening!…
This week's episode is with Steve Tandy who is the founder of Copmedia specialising in regional TV / Radio plugging. I wanted to get a plugger on this podcast as it's definitely a side of the industry that seems to be more taboo. I ask Steve all the questions I think my listeners would want to know, from how regional radio can be beneficial to an artists's career, how much a typical single campaign would cost, to who decides what songs make those magical radio playlists. For more info on Copmedia, you can visit their website Copmedia or email info@copmedia.co.uk If you are enjoying the podcast, please like, follow & share @musicsecretspod . Tune in every Monday for a brand new episode.…
Introducing the absolute superstar who is... BEKA. Beka and I met at the 2021 'Drake Yolanda' Funding final and I was immediately drawn to her as a person, and then I heard her sing and I was well and truly obsessed. BEKA has had such an impressive career, collaborating and touring with Honne to her first single (released in 2020) getting track of the week on BBC Radio 1. We talk how she got there, how she build her amazing team, and she shares a brilliant industry secret tip that I've been using ever since. Follow Beka on Insta , Spotify Follow Music Industry Secrets... Spilled for clips behind the scenes And tune in for a new episode every Monday ! xx…
In this episode I am joined by very own manager, Ben Price (Harbourside Management). I first met Ben around 8 years ago through a singing competition I was in and he was one of the judges. We eventually started working together back in 2019 and I became of the first artists he signed under 'Harbourside Management' when he launched the company in 2021. In this episode we go into when is the right time for an artist to seek management, the many different roles managers play and what red flags to look out for in bad managers. Ben was also really candid with me by talking openly about his non-visible disability and how we are both trying to make conscious efforts towards making the music industry a more accessible and inclusive place. If you enjoy this episode, make sure to follow us on whatever platform you're listening on, not forgetting also our @social media . Little plug from me too, I have just announced that this year I will be releasing my DEBUT ALBUM. For this I am doing a number of fund-raising events, first of which is an exclusive zoom gig where I'll be testing out some potential new songs for the album. I also have a headline show at The Brunswick in Brighton & Hove on Friday 25th March where you can see me play some of my older material maybe for the last time live with my band. Tickets for both of these on my website . Tune in next Monday for a brand new episode!…
Kicking off Series 2 of the podcast is fellow busker and good friend, Charlotte Campbell. If you've ever been in London and wandered down the Southbank, you'll have probably come across Charlotte busking underneath the London eye. I knew she would be the best person to have on the podcast to talk about all things busking . We talk about how to start busking, what gear to use, what pitches you can play (with and without licences) and so much more. We also go into Charlotte's original career and how she dealt with the backlash she received after getting her cover of Mr Brightside played on Love Island. [Spotify] This episode was so fun to do and to be honest, it's just a good old chat between two friends talking about music.…

We talk about how artists can get their music played on their local BBC Introducing show, to playing on their stages at festivals. We also talk about other avenues of getting radio play and when the right time is to bring in a plugger. In this episode I am joined by the lovely Kate McGill (Meadowlark). What I love about Kate is how open and honest she is about everything, We talk about how she started by releasing cover songs on Youtube, to forming her band Meadowlark - going from supporting Bastille to making the decision not to play live any more. Before talking to Kate I just assumed that most artists love to gig, but she opened my eyes to the fact not every artist enjoys that side of things. By breaking the 'rules' and going against the norm, Kate explains you can still make a living from music without having to gig, with the help from platforms like Patreon and Twitch alongside having a very loyal fanbase. I hope you enjoy this chat with the very humble, Kate McGill. If you'd like to hear more of Kate, you can hear some of the covers we talk about, her band Meadowlark or watch her stream on Twitch . You can also get tickets to my new rescheduled shows here . Enjoying the podcast so far? Follow us on social media & let us know what you think on Insta , Twitter or Facebook…
For this episode I am joined by the wonderful wizard of publishing; Simon Pursehouse (Director of Music Services at Sentric Music). Sentric is an independent, artist friendly music publishing company who cover the admin side of things, like registering songs correctly so that songwriters get paid. If you're a songwriter, you're going to want to listen to this. A piece of advice for this one? We talk a lot about PRS, MCPS, PPL, PRO, master rights, publishing rights... if I were you I'd take the time to listen to this with no distractions... and also, grab a notepad! If you're new to songwriting, this episode might feel a little overwhelming, but it's all essential knowledge that songwriters need to be on top of. We also talk about fun stuff like sync and getting your song on TV, film etc. so it's not all admin. Every time I hear Simon do a talk on publishing, I feel like I learn something new. He is a wonderful, knowledgeable chap and I loved chatting with him for this. Check out Simon's blog , the famous WTF is music publishing and follow him on twitter .…
This week I am joined by Irish based Singer/Songwriter, Megan O'Neill. We touch on ageism and sexism in the industry, the pros and cons of having a publishing deal, successfully changing genres, art vs. content, PR, irish radio… Megan is also a tutor and course creator at ICMP so she has a real understanding of the business side of things. There is some really great advice in this episode and I only wish I could have spoken more with her because she is just a bucket of knowledge and I loved getting her unique perspective of the industry. Megan is currently on a UK tour, which from what I've seen on social media so far, looks incredible. You can get tickets to that here . You can also listen to Megan's new album along with that 'Time In a Bottle' cover on all streaming platforms. I am also playing TWO headline shows this week in London (28th) & Brighton (29th) so if you haven't got your ticket for that yet, please grab one here . Don't forget to follow the podcast on here, Youtube & on social media @musicsecretspod for behind the scene clips and announcements.…
