Seasonal thinking - there’s a logical flow of energy in nature. The more we follow the flow of nature throughout the year, our lives and in our companies the easier it becomes. Both and - two things can be true simultaneously (for instance co-operation and competition); it happens in nature all the time and it could be true in our lives as well…if we allow for it. Wholeness & diversity - embracing the totality of things and ourselves. If we allow all voices in our organizations to be heard, we become stronger and more flexible - but how do we do that? How do we deal with the messiness that comes with it? (The threshold for) Discomfort - it helps us in learning, but we have natural way of avoiding it. We can grow our muscles for discomfort, though, and thereby become better versions of ourselves. There is no single truth - that’s a thought that helps us to be kind to ourselves and build the confidence we need to stand tall within ourselves. Larger than self - we are a part of everything around us: everything that was, that is right now and that will be. Knowing that, hopefully, will move you to treat nature with the respect it deserves. Self-love is the first and most essential building block for all of us if we want to contribute to a better world. We hebben het vaak over 'leven in harmonie met de natuur'. Dat gaat verder dan goed zorgen voor de beestjes en plantjes in onze omgeving. Eeuwenlang heeft de mens geleefd in harmonie met de natuur, maar langzaam zijn we dat kwijtgeraakt. Gelukkig is die kennis niet weg of vergeten. Er zijn nog steeds natuurvolkeren die met deze kennis en gebruiken leven. Onze gast, Wim van Aken, weet veel van deze natuurvolkeren. Hij past hun gebruiken toe om mensen in 'onze westerse wereld' verder te helpen in het leven. Dat is zowel in organisaties, als in het dagelijks leven. In onze zoektocht naar leiderschap voor een betere wereld moeten we dus het gesprek aangaan met mensen zoals Wim. In het gesprek met Wim leer je hoe de kijk van natuurvolkeren op relaties, omgang met de natuur, omgang met mensen, harmonie, hiërarchie... en nog veel meer een rol spelen in leiderschap voor een betere wereld. Arjen Brussaard is opgeleid neuroloog, maar vooral een mens met een missie. Hij is jarenlang bezig geweest met het bij elkaar brengen van de academische ziekenhuis wereld en het bedrijfsleven. Zo maken die twee werelden het leven van patiënten een stukje beter. The Expedition is dit keer een zoektocht naar hoe je die twee wereld bij elkaar brengt.
