Now here's a few words from our hosts...
Marlon is a 25-year Los Angeles Police Department veteran and has over 12 years of
Police Misconduct Investigation, adjudication, and examination experience. Much of his experience comes from when Marlon was assigned to Internal Affairs (IA) in a
prosecutorial role, representing the Chief of Police conducting Board of Rights, a unique Tribunal Hearing (the only agency with such a process in the nation). The numerous cases he tried involved “False & Misleading” allegations and termination was at issue.
However, Marlon has also been assigned to Officer Representation Section (ORS)
defending, representing the rank and file in Skelly Responses and most important,
during the administrative process in an OIS or other critical incidents. Marlon ensured IA Investigators were not violating the Peace Officer Bill of Rights Act (POBRA).
Nevertheless, because of his experience, he was hired as an Instructor by Savage
Training Group.
Marlon’s passion for discipline came early in his career when he was preparing cases
for Court Marshals & Non-Judiciary Punishment (aka: Captain’s Mast) when he was in active duty in the U.S. Navy back in 1995. After joining the LAPD in July 1998, working as a patrol officer, then promoted to Sergeant in January 2007, his passion was reenergized when he was chosen to work ORS and IA.
Marlon possesses a Juris Doctorate from Pacific Coast University, School of Law and
was going to become a full time Police Attorney until he was offered a recent promotion to continue his law enforcement career. Meanwhile, Marlon has been retained as a Subject Matter Expert and will continue to share his knowledge with listeners, students, everything there is to know about IA investigations, which he considers a very untapped subject matter.
Viviana Sarrade is a bilingual News Anchor/Reporter for Estrella Media in Los Angeles, CA, with over ten years of experience. Some of the highlights from the many stories she has covered include interviewing California Governor Gavin Newsom and newly elected Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and covering visits to California by Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Originally from Ecuador, she moved to Los Angeles where she graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. She started working in the news industry at MUNDOFOX before continuing her career at Estrella Media.
Viviana is the weekend anchor for Estrella News, the first 24/7 digital Spanish-language digital news channel launched in the U.S., and she also covers local news for KRCA, EstrellaTV’s flagship television station in Los Angeles.
Viviana won the 2023 Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Media in the “Non-English Individual Achievement (TV-Local)” award for her 2022 feature on the Los Angeles Mayoral race “En Lucha por Los Ángeles” for KRCA. She was also nominated for a Golden Mike Award for her reporting on the story “Mujeres en Zapatos de Hombres,” focusing on Latina single mothers with careers in male-dominated professions.
