Being authentic means acknowledging and accepting our beliefs, experiences, and feelings. In Episode 15 of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard, Marlowe speaks with Michael McAdams, an author and spiritual seeker, about how to cultivate spirituality. Michael has a rich spiritual background rooted in the Pentecostal faith, which boasts a strict, literal interpretation of the Bible. As a child, despite his family's famous teachers and preachers, Michael would often question what he was reading in the Bible and how literal the descriptions of heaven and hell might be. Michael’s religious upbringing is starkly different from Marlowe’s; she was not traditionally baptized, and often confused her family members when she participated in communion. Self-awareness is crucial in the quest for authenticity, especially when questioning or seeking organized religion and spirituality. People must understand that they have the free will to accept or reject guidance from the spiritual realm, and we won’t know whether you were “correct” until you crossover. This autonomy allows us to connect with their intuition, guidance from spirit teachers, or personal experiences. In Episode 15 of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard, Marlowe shares how she has awakened and started writing, while in a semi-conscious state, to be surprised by what sentences were legible the next day. Michael shares how his mother would receive messages from her spirit guides, angels, or spiritual teachers with messages to share with the world. Michael collected and co-authored a book with his late mother, Wilma Jean Jones, to share the insights and affirmations received from Wilma’s spiritual teachers. The book, An Angel Told Me So , reinforces the notion that we are not alone and we often have multiple spirit teachers that we can learn from. By recognizing that spirituality can exist independently from religion, you will open yourself to a broader understanding of existence. Everyone has a purpose, and we don’t have to handle life alone; our spiritual teachers have been nudging and trying to get our attention. Sit down, be still. It’s safe here. With infinite possibilities in dating and love, Marlowe Lenard is learning that you do not have to settle for anything less than what you deserve. Not because another love is around the corner, but because you must be honest with yourself to be honest while dating and spending time with someone else. In Episode 14 of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard, Marlowe shares a lesson she recently learned from dating and romantic relationships. Although hurt and disappointed, Marlowe chose to walk away from a relationship where she and the other person didn't share the same goals. Marlowe reflects on the honesty, strength, and maturity needed to walk away from love instead of staying in an unfulfilling relationship, rather than creating a fantasy and narrative of what she wanted the relationship to become — a lesson learned from Marlowe’s 15-year marriage. Marlowe Lenard is gaining clarity about what she wants and doesn't want in her life, including in romantic relationships and from a romantic partner. Episode 14 of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard shares how being authentic with yourself requires you to make difficult decisions, like leaving an exciting love once you learn that both people are not aligned. The realization that "two people could carry the same experience but be meant to take them in different directions" underscores the idea that relationships are not just about feelings, but each persons individual path and growth. This perspective encourages listeners to reflect on their own relationships and consider how these connections can guide them toward their authentic selves. Through tears and pride, Marlowe demonstrates the necessity of setting boundaries and encourages listeners to take off their emotional, societal, nonchalant, inauthentic masks and confront their relationships with honesty. 1 The Power of Authentic Communication: Lessons Learned from Divorce and Writing Your Truth feat. Jackie Pilossoph 53:17
Writing through journaling or storytelling can be a powerful tool for self-reflection and healing. In Episode 13 of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard, Marlowe welcomes Jackie Pilossoph to the podcast to discuss their personal writing journeys, divorce, and how self-publishing is an act of self-acceptance. Marlowe and Jackie share how they became inauthentic in their marriages: Jackie resented giving up her career to raise her children, and Marlowe fully embraced becoming "Marlowe the Wife" and doing everything she thought was wanted and expected of her. Jackie hosts the Divorced Girl Smiling podcast. Her motivation to podcast came from her giving heart: Jackie wanted to provide resources for divorced women to help them navigate the process. The Divorced Girl Smiling website has the resources needed while navigating divorce: divorce lawyers, marriage counselors, financial planners, and the Divorced Girl Smiling podcast episodes. This episode also explores Marlowe and Jackie's love for writing. After writing several fiction novels, Jackie emphasizes that writing can be more effective than therapy and that she often recommends that people write about what they are feeling to process the many emotions uncovered during a divorce. Marlowe shares the magic of writing "Love Letters to Leo" and how the words would tumble out of her and onto her computer. She also enjoys journaling when she needs to process a situation. In Episode 13 of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard, Marlowe says, "Nothing in the world lights me up and re-energizes my entire body like writing does." Whether through journaling or storytelling, writing can lead to greater understanding, empowerment, and discovery of one's authentic self. We need people, anger, and energy to live authentically because everything is co-created. In this episode of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard, Marlowe welcomes Leo Sablin to the podcast. After meeting in Cairo, Egypt, in February 2025 at a Robert Edward Grant's Expedition traveling up the Nile, Marlowe and Leo kept in touch, and Leo shared a kundalini breathing exercise with Marlowe. An exercise that would assist with an anger Marlowe didn’t know she possessed because generally, she is a positive person in life. Anger is a theme of the episode because Leo spotted something in Marlowe she didn't even know she was carrying. He unlocked her anger in the best of ways. We learn that anger is not a negative or unwanted emotion. Anger inspires children to imitate and walk. Anger that makes us want to grow, learn, and do more. Anger is an engaging fire in your life that reminds you that you are alive and want to create and can shift your consciousness. Episode 12 of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard discusses the complexities of navigating today's world, from political turmoil, living amidst a flood of information yet being ignorant of truth, moral dilemmas, the value of authenticity, and how to acknowledge that you influence your surroundings and life. Although life will present challenges to us, whether divorce, creative dissatisfaction, or a desire for spiritual understanding, religious practices, or the spiritual unconscious, we must acknowledge that the process of creation is not isolated. Creating life, creating an energy-led life, and creating spiritual abundance are ways that we can reinforce our interconnectedness with the world. Marlowe shares how she uses storytelling and fantasizing as escapism to craft narratives to shield herself from uncomfortable truths in life and coping mechanisms. Marlowe and Leo discuss how storytelling is a gift and can lead Marlowe to a broader, more conscious life. Episode 12 of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard discusses aura, human conception, Human Design, and future self incarnation, and encouragement to visit the places that raise your frequency and energy, which for Marlowe are New York City and Mexico. Embracing intentionality will transform your life and help you cultuvate authenticity in your life. Marlowe Lenard welcomes Kat Artemis, a wayshower and author, to discuss how Kat created a life she loves once she aligned her actions with her intentions. Kat shares her experiences with depression and anxiety, which often stemmed from a lack of authenticity. There was a pivotal moment in Kat's life when she realized she was tired of pretending to be happy while feeling miserable inside. Deciding to choose herself led Kat to reject everything that no longer served her and be led by her intentions. From working in a call center to growing to a VP corporate role, Kat trusts herself, sets her intentions, and is cultivating genuine happiness and inner peace in her life. In Episode 11 of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard, Marlowe explains how intentionality led her to make conscious choices that align with today's goals. When Marlowe left her corporate job, although she did not know what she would find on the other side, she knew that today's goal was to remove herself from what no longer served her. Marlowe has spent 18 months deliberately choosing her actions, thoughts, and creating intentional spaces where she can declutter her mind and regulate herself, like 48 hours of stillness. Marlowe and Kat emphasize the simplicity of intentionality. You do not have to create time-consuming or complicated routines. Asking yourself how you feel in a situation or conversation or pausing to reflect before making a decision can lead to profound changes and more authenticity in your life. Intentionality is the path to authentic happiness. Episode 11 of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard is a celebration of how deliberate choices will balance out the influence of the ego to encourage you to cultivate a life rich with meaning and fulfillment. Finding love after divorce is not easy, but it is often hilarious. Marlowe Lenard explains why she joined dating apps, why she left dating apps, a surprise matchmaking session, and how finding love after divorce is teaching Marlowe a new meaning of self-love. After a painful divorce, Marlowe spent years diving into her new routine and interests and, eventually, was ready to date. Marlowe didn't anticipate her new dating life impacting every relationship around her: deepening her friendship with her ex-husband and pulling her female friendships closer, as she spent hours with friends laughing at the awful selfies on most dating apps. This episode allows Marlowe to share how she met her ex-husband, connected with Leo, and was introduced to The Chef. Each relationship contributed to her new understanding of love: that every relationship will teach us something new about ourselves and that every romantic relationship does not have to lead to marriage, no matter how magical the connection is. Episode 7 of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard will challenge anyone looking for love, whether divorced or not, to stop looking and start connecting. Connect with your happiness, prioritize joy, and take yourself to dinner, not with the expectation of meeting a significant other, but as an expression of gratitude for your life. Join Marlowe as she describes her ideal way to meet a partner and her current views of love. For Marlowe Lenard, being authentic means admitting that she desires a committed relationship and choosing to allow the Universe to dictate the timeline. Marlowe Leonard welcomes Laura Khan, Social Alchemist, Energy Coach, and Cosmic Mother, to share the transformative power of authenticity and vulnerability in relationships. Laura recounts how their friendship blossomed through social media, where after working around each other for years, they could express their true selves and desire to get to know each other better. Intentionally sharing their passions and interests on social media allowed Marlowe and Laura to connect deeper and inspired Laura to invite Marlowe to attend her fortieth birthday party in Arizona. Authenticity and vulnerability are key themes in Marlowe and Laura’s friendship and this episode. Marlowe discusses how vulnerability allows individuals to hold space for themselves and others, creating an environment where real emotions and experiences can be shared. She notes that traditionally, in corporate office settings, vulnerability is often perceived as a weakness, leading people to hide behind facades. However, when individuals choose to be vulnerable, they open the door to authentic connections and "successful" relationships and partnerships. Laura reflects on her journey, stating that her interest in leaving her corporate job was possible once she saw Marlowe take the leap. "I just needed a breath of fresh air of somebody choosing themselves, even though you don't know what else is on the other side," explained Laura Khan in Episode 6 of Authentic with Marlowe Lenard. The episode illustrates that embracing authenticity and vulnerability can lead to significant personal transformation. Marlowe and Laura push each other to explore their true potential, but their relationship is not competitive. Their friendship is rooted in mutual support and encouragement, and this dynamic allows them to create weekly touch base calls, integrate their lives and travel to Egypt, where the two are recording this episode. Marlowe Lenard welcomes her grandparents, Nanny and Pappy, to discuss authenticity and what it means to be self-aware. At 100 and 95 years old, respectively, this episode of Authentic is a thought-provoking conversation about the necessity of prioritizing oneself to create a fulfilling life. They emphasize that happiness comes from within and the value of giving yourself what you seek in the external world. Happiness starts at home and YOU are home. The discussion also touches on the significance of continuous learning and self-awareness, highlighting how our brains absorb information that shapes our understanding of authenticity. Join us for an insightful dialogue encouraging listeners to embrace their authentic selves and take charge of their happiness. Marlowe Lenard, her Nanny, and Pappy reflect on the notion that happiness cannot be handed to someone by external sources. Instead, it is a state of being that must be cultivated through self-acceptance and self-care. The conversation encourages listeners to embrace their individuality and pursue what genuinely brings them joy rather than conforming to societal pressures or expectations. “You have to be careful about the friends you choose, things you read, things you listen to from all your senses," explains Nanny. This advice points to the idea that the influences we allow into our lives can significantly impact our sense of authenticity. By being selective about the information and relationships we engage with, we can create an environment that supports our authentic selves. Moreover, the speakers discuss the ongoing journey of self-improvement and learning. They emphasize that authenticity is not a destination but a continuous process of growth and self-discovery. The idea that "you never stop learning" reinforces the notion that individuals should remain open to new experiences and perspectives, which can further enhance their understanding of themselves and their authentic desires. Marlowe Leonard reflects on the beauty of life and the power of individual perspective. Marlowe expresses gratitude for the heartfelt feedback from listeners of all ages, highlighting the connections formed through shared experiences. She emphasizes the importance of vulnerability and authenticity in shaping our relationships and how our perceptions can mirror our self-view. This solo episode offers encouragement to find and spread the beauty in everyday life. Marlowe discusses the multifaceted nature of relationships and their varying purposes throughout our lives. One of the key insights she shares is that the end of a relationship does not necessarily signify failure; instead, it can indicate the completion of a lesson meant to be learned. Marlowe Lenard categorizes relationships into three distinct types and how they impacted her life, each with its significance: Casual Relationships: brief encounters that may leave a lasting impression but do not profoundly affect our lives. Transitional Relationships: relationships fall into this category, including friendships, romantic partnerships, and even marriages. Marlowe Lenard emphasizes that when these relationships end, society often views them as failures. Lifelong Relationships: these relationships are not always easy but essential for our personal development. By focusing on the lessons learned rather than perceived failures, Marlowe illustrates how we can navigate the complexities of relationships with a more positive mindset. This shift in perspective allows individuals to appreciate the value of each relationship, regardless of its duration or outcome. This perspective empowers us to embrace each relationship's lessons, fostering a deeper appreciation for the journey of life and the people we encounter along the way.
