I was thrilled to speak at the inaugural Wealth Identity Conference with Deborah Allen-Burger, Owner/Founder of Arch Designs, Inc -Small Business Consultant. I was able to feature my influential work in advancing women’s financial empowerment. Breaking Barriers in the Financial Industry
My journey is one of perseverance and breaking barriers. With over 35 years of experience as an investment advisor, I began my career in the early 1980s, stepping into a predominantly male-dominated industry. At that time, female stockbrokers were a rarity, but I stood my ground, showcasing my selling skills and eventually earning a position in major brokerage firms.
Despite the challenges, my ambition led me to establish one of the first female-run brokerage dealerships on the West Coast. By hiring both women and men but with a focus on opening doors for other women, I became a pioneer in the financial landscape. My motivation was simple yet profound: to not just earn money but to deeply understand it.
The Vision Behind Wealth Creation
My approach to wealth creation has always been rooted in vision and belief. When I built and sold my first investment advisory firm, it wasn’t just about accumulating wealth—it was about making a meaningful impact. Having a clear vision and an unshakable belief in one's goals are crucial in navigating the financial markets' ups and downs and economic shifts.
Wealth building, to me, is akin to planting and nurturing seeds. It's a long-term endeavor that demands a consistent and resilient mindset. My experiences in building and selling successful advisory firms stand as a testament to the power of vision and the importance of relationship building in the financial sector.
The Genesis of Money Talks
Money Talks for Women is a financial clinic I created to empower women through financial education. After a successful career, I felt a calling to give back and share my wealth of knowledge. This initiative ensures that women recognize their financial acumen and gain the confidence needed to manage their money effectively.
The clinic offers courses tailored to women at various levels of financial proficiency, from beginners to advanced investors. Creating a safe space where women can freely ask questions without fear of criticism fosters learning and growth, helping them overcome the confidence gap that often hinders their financial decision-making.
Several strategies are crucial for women to enhance their confidence in making investment decisions. Firstly, creating a supportive community where women feel safe to ask questions is paramount. Many hesitate to seek clarification from financial advisors due to a lack of understanding of financial jargon, which hinders their ability to make informed decisions.
