Our annual Faculty Symposium was held on March 29, 2016. The Symposium is a venue for Notre Dame Seminary faculty members to feature their own scholarly work in theology or philosophy, to model dialogue and allow NDS seminarians and students the opportunity to pose questions. This year Dr. Brant Pitre’s lecture was entitled, “The Case for Jesus: the Biblical and Historical Evidence for Christ.” Summarizing key arguments in his new book by the same name, Dr. Pitre explored questions such as:
• Were the four Gospels really anonymous?
• Are the Gospels biographies?
• Were the four Gospels written too late to be reliable?
• What about the so-called “Lost Gospels”?
• Did Jesus claim to be God?
• Is Jesus divine in all four Gospels? Or only in John?
• Did Jesus fulfill the Jewish prophecies of the Messiah?
• Why was Jesus crucified?
• What is the evidence for the Resurrection?
Dr. Gregory Vall offered a response and a lively exchange ensued. This event was open to seminarians, M.A. students, Deacon Candidates and their wives and all NDS alumni.
