×Okay, this was actually recorded on a Friday, but it’s being uploaded on a Tuesday, so it still works. That said, if it makes you more comfortable to think of it as “Taco Time!”, it’s yo’ thang. Do whatcha wana do. Etc., etc. Download , grab some tacos—hard, soft, regular, fish, whatever suits you—and maybe some chips and salsa, and don’t forget your headphones… …and enjoy!…

I could swear I posted this earlier, but I can’t find it on the site, so if this is a duplicate adventure, somebody let me know and I’ll take this one down. This was recorded way back on June 15, 2017. I thought about adding some commentary to it, because there are stretches where I’m not sure it’s clear that my friend and I are moving on the bike. I forgot that from the listener’s perspective, we are staying still while everything moves around us. Hopefully, this is a fun listen. If you wish to leave feedback, please do so at blindgeek@lioncourt.com . Thanks loads. Enjoy!…
At long last, Blind Geek Adventures is back! I explain the reason for the insanely long hiatus during our walk around the block, so I won’t write it here. This time out , we’re testing some new binaural mics which are part of the Ambeos Smart Headset from Sanheiser. These are designed specifically for the iPhone, and so far, they’re fantastic. Since making the recording you’re about to hear, I did install the Ambeos app, and I’m happy to report that, for the most part, it’s quite accessable. The only thing I’ve had some trouble with is the built-in Quickstart Guide, which seems to consist of videos which have no spoken components, so the accessibility issues seem moot. I was able to update the firmware and adjust parameters with no difficulty. I didn’t normalize or use dynamic compression on this, because I wanted to show off the capabilities of the mics. I may—and I stress, may—change this with future episodes. Of course, the compression from a fairly low-bit MP3 file can’t be helped, since I need to keep these files reasonably small. But I hope this sounds good enough to give you the feeling I got when I heard this back. I’m quite p…
Hey, folks. Long time no see. This particular episode might not be available for very long. It’s mainly being put up to test the feed, which has been out of commission for a couple years now, at least as far as posting new episodes is concerned. We’ve been able to get episodes which had been posted earlier to show up—episodes I made before I knew there was a problem, so you have been gifted with a couple new adventures to listen to … but this is where we find out if I can actually start making new material and knowing with certainty that you will get to hear it through your podcast app of choice. But this probably will be taken down soon, of for no other reason than the potential copyright violation is huge, and that is not what I intended. I was just testing the equipment. Anyway, enough from me. Download … …while you can.…

Hiya, gang. This was recorded on August 17, 2019, just a few weeks ago. Jackson’s Corner is a local restaurant about half a mile from my house. Zeke and I decided to make a morning sojourn of it, to test out some … well, re-discovered equipment. I’m very happy with the results. I forgot I was recording, and on the way home, Menissa and I get into a conversation with Zeke. It’s all in fun, we know he doesn’t really talk. But … well, it’s fun. I almost edited it out, but hey, after seeing Frozen, I feel I have license to share my Zeke conversations. So there ya go. Enjoy the episode, and feel free to send comments to either the Facebook page, or blindgeek@lioncourt.com . Oh, almost forgot the link. Kind of important, that. Download .…

Hey, everybody! Little darlin’s, it’s been a long, cold, lonely winter! But now, I see the smiles returning to the faces, because we have brand-new podcasts! This is the first of what will be many new podcasts to come. Blind Geek Adventures is back in business, baby!!!! So let’s go back in the Troup Time Machine to sometime in May of 2015. This was recorded, and left on my desktop to be put on the feed … and never did get put on the feed. I wish I had some reason as to why, but alas, I don’t. There are several upcoming installments which fit that description. So for a while, the old shall be mixed with the new. My best suggestion is just enjoy the content, and don’t think too much about it. So. 2015. Four years ago. Life hasn’t changed too much. Menissa and I are still roomies, and we still live in the same place. Haven’t been back to another one of these markets, but I expect that will change this year. Grab your headphones (DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS WHILE DRIVING!!!), sit back, or get on your treadmill, whichever is your preference … relax, and enjoy. Bend Saturday Street Market…

Holy jeez, it’s been a while! Yes, this podcast still exists. Yes, I plan on making more frequent contributions to it. I know, I did say in the beginning that this podcast would be irregular, but never in my wildest dreams did I think there’d ever be over a year between updates!!!! Last Friday, I had my first (mostly) unassisted cooking experience. I decided to post it, as it certainly did qualify as a BlindGeek adventure. It’s a long ‘un, so strap yourself into something comfortable, don your headphones of choice, and give it a listen. I think you’ll find you laugh a lot. (Not at the cooking, I hope.) I know we who were there certainly did. Here’s the episode. DISCLAIMER: Language gets, shall we say, colorful at times in this particular podcast. Also, due to the nature of in-ear binaural miss, when we are finally enjoying the fruits of my labor, it’s … well … quite obvious that I am enjoying the fruits of my labor. Particularly the crispy bacon. If this offends or grosses you out, just know that everything turned out well and was well-received, so when we start to eat, you can feel free to move on to your next listen. Enjoy! And please feel free to send comments to the Blind Geek Adventures Facebook page. It’s great to be back!…

Hiya, folks! We’re going back to March of this year. This was one of my first walks in my new neighborhood. Zeke and I are accompanied by our friend Menissa, and we go forth to seek adventure and lunch at a restaurant called Superburrito . It’s a longer podcast than usual, because I figured I’d let you all discover this place as I did. It’s a chain, so there may be one in your area as well. I encourage you to check it out. Despite its title, the tacos are the real supers in town. So don your audio-headgear of choice, download … …and enjoy.…

Hi, ev’rybody! I need your help. I’ve taken a short trip to get the mail, and recorded it in two different ways; I’d like your help to let me know how you’d like to hear future BGA podcasts. Do you prefer the sound of the first half, where we walk to the mailbox, or the second half, when we return home? There are pros and cons to each; there’s no right or wrong answer. I’m just curious. This is your chance to help shape the future sound of this podcast. Send your comments to blindgeek@lioncourt.com, or like our brand-spanking-new Facebook page and leave a comment there, so we can all share and enjoy. I’m dealing with a small but irritating health issue, so this podcast is rather short, but I think it actually works better as a short podcast, given its purpose. Don’t worry; we’ll be back to our more traditional length, if not longer, son enough. In the meantime, grab your earbuds, headphones, or whatever earpieces work best for you… Download the episode … …Give me some feedback on which half of the podcast you like best for sound quality… …And above all… …Enjoy!…

They’re here, they’re here! The brand-new mics are here!!! In this episode, we unbox the new in-ear binaural mics and take them for a test run to Starbucks. Fun times to be had! I’m very interested to know if you, the listener, notice any difference in the spaciality and/or quality of these new microphones. I know how they sound to me; I’m just curious to see how they sound to you. One caviat: I talk in the podcast about how I’ve turned the limiter of the recorder off and am hoping the traffic doesn’t cause clipping or distortion. Well, as it turns out, the Olympus LS-14 has a recording mode called Quick Mode which automatically adjusts the recording levels to compensate. So as I understand it, regardless of what I have the limiter set to, Quick Mode is kind of doing its own thing. Which means we get that “limiter effect,” which seems more noticeable to me with the increased output of these microphones. So next outing, I’m putting the recorder in Manual Mode and will try recording with the limiter really off this time. Or perhaps I should just leave well enough alone…? Anyway, here’s our test run. Leave feedback at blindgeek@lioncourt.com, or follow me on Twitter (@blindgeek) and leave feedback there. And now, fellow Adventurers… …don your headphones… … Download the episode … …And enjoy!…

Here’s the episode discussed in the previous one, from October 30, 2014. Step into the WayBac machine and let’s go. Incidentally, I do still have the mono recording mentioned. So if there’s interest, I’ll post it… although I should tell you, we’re going to be exploring that whole area in depth on this podcast in a short time, so the recording’s relevance is not what it would’ve been when it was made. We’re off to experience ApplePay for the first time. This isn’t the most impressive demo, since neither I nor the McDonald’s employees had much of a clue what we were doing. I’ve since become much more adept at using ApplePay, as have the employees. Even so, I think you’ll find the speed of the transaction impressive. And with that, we’re back to our friends, the binaural mics, so don your headphones… … Download … …and enjoy!…

Hi, folks. Glad to finally be back. Please forgive the audio quality in this particular episode. The why of it is explained in the episode itself, so I won’t bother to repeat it here. It sure feels great to be back! The website mentioned in this episode is Dreaming with Jeff . As I did on our walk, I strongly encourage you to check it out. It’s an awesome thing Jeff Bridges is doing over there, and it’ll feel damn good to be even a small part of it. If you want to send me feedback on this, or any other, episode, please send it to blindgeek@lioncourt.com. Watch for the Blind Geek Adventures Facebook page, coming soon. I think. That’s the plan, anyway. You can grab your headphones for this one if you want, but it’s not nearly as necessary. This one’s just in good old-fashioned stereophonic sound. Grrrrrrrr… In any case, download … …and enjoy!…

Wow, has it been a long time! Over a year! Not an intentional break, I assure you, and not something I plan on repeating. We’ll get into why the break happened in a future podcast, during a walk. And when I say future, I mean a couple weeks at most, not a couple months. Anyway, assuming we still have any listeners left, thanks for sticking around, and welcome back! On September 19th, I was one of many people who were out en masse in the wee small hours of the morning, in order to obtain the much-anticipated iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. Zeke and I went unaccompanied, so I decided to record the adventure. Unlike most of these podcasts, this one was heavily edited for time. As it stands, it’s just over 90 minutes. In its full glory, it would’ve been about 160 minutes. Trust me, it’s better this way. So grab a beverage, grab your headphones, download and enjoy.…

If you listen to this podcast for the chatter, this may not be the podcast for you. Zeke and I put BlindSquare to the test by tagging the entrance to the Cascade Swim Center. I tagged the entrance as opposed to just the address because in order to get to the entrance itself, I knew we’d have to cross a parking lot, a small park area, and who knew what else? Just asking for a blind guy and his guide dog to get lost. Not only that, but this was our first attempt at walking to the center. Consequently, there’s a lot more ambience in this podcast, as I was thinking on my feet and trying to cope not only with a new route, but with a rather irritated Zeke. He was forced to wear dog boots. It’s a condition of the folks who run the center. I’m not sure why, but they said if he was going to come in and hang out where the pool was, he had to wear boots of some kind. For all I know, they may have very good reasons for this. Chemicals on the ground, slippery surfaces, etc.. However, he hates these boots, and let me know it during our walk through obstinate behavior at nearly every turn. Still, we came across some fun people in our journey, so I still think it makes for enjoyable listening. A note about sidewalkless travel with a guide dog: It’s slow going, annoying, and neither Zeke nor I like it much. You’ll hear me say “Left-left,” or “Right-right,” followed by “Follow the shoulder” a lot. The essence of this command means get as close to the shoulder of the road as possible, and follow it. Guide dogs generally tend to want to stay in the middle of a sidewalk, and so, they tend to drift away from the shoulder if not kept in check. So every twenty to thirty steps, we stop and turn back toward the shoulder, walking up to it, and then turning back on-course for another twenty to thirty steps. LIke I said, it’s slow going. But in an area like Redmond, it’s necessary. Okay, enough babbling from me. Grab some headphones, download , and enjoy.…
