Follow @beaner & @olin Originally, this 3 part series was meant to come out June 1st, but in light of the murder of George Floyd and the collective righteous anger in pursuit of justice and an end to the cancer that is policing, all of us involved felt it was necessary to put it aside. Taking a step back, being thoughtful about your actions, and critically analyzing what you are doing - and why - is really important to us. To be clear: Black erasure in dance music is horribly real and requires deep examination and decisive action. In relation to the wider world, we believe that the emancipation of Black people is the crest of a revolutionary wave for a better world. Without humanity restoring the personhood that Black people have been stripped of and denied, we will never build a better world. Personally, as “artists” we struggle with the rabidly individualistic self-promotion culture that is deeply entrenched in the dance music “scene”. Production fetishization, Rise-&-Grind culture, and Techno as a shallow signifier to be worn by white colonizers are all part of the same issues. Anti-capitalism without intersectionality is class reductionist and intersectionality without anti-capitalism is (neo)liberal defanged identity politics. Both of these are tools of oppression too, so let’s miscegenate our political ideologies. You cannot fight capitalism with “woke” capitalism. Shifting the balance and power of capital is important - for now - but it is only just that: morphing the shape and color of a gruesome and irredeemable system. Much like the police, the system and industry that brought you “woke” capitalism cannot be redeemed or reformed. But constant suffering is also not the answer. Nor is remaining silent. The failure of the Boomer “New Left” was olive-drab-sour-dour-no-fun-misery-politics. The newer never-ending circular firing squad and permanent state of self-criticism do not lead to full emancipation, either. We are looking for a movement, a culture, a community, a heaving mass. Of accomplices. Armed With Joy. So, after 6 weeks of putting it off, we decided to try to share a little joy, but also to make sure we added a spoonful of medicine to help the sugar go down. Black Lives Matter. All Cops Are Bastards. Fuck the police, no more prisons. Eliminate the carceral state. We are all racist, and we must all listen, learn, struggle and strive to be better. So, see you in the streets. Be safe, take care of each other, watch your backs, never talk to the police and please don't give your heart to a world system based on exploitation of the luckless, give your heart to US! -Pablo (Beaner), Jason (Olin), Tano (might be nice), & Aaron (Acid Camp) Part 1 hosted by Beaner at @beaner Part 2 hosted by Might Be Nice including VIDEO PREMIERE at mightbenice.org Part 3 hosted by Acid Camp at @acidcamp
