Dear Mom & Dad –

Got your very interesting letter today telling of the Colonel’s friends coming to visit you. I’m certainly glad you met & liked them. The Col. really praised them – he said they seemed like parents to him.

So the news of Denny’s coming home is out. Well it’s just as well, although I think he wanted to surprise them. He told me not to tell, but I tried to discourage him from just “walking in” for fear they’d fall over dead. Guess he was going to phone from Frisco. You’d better “square” me when he comes to see you – he’ll think I told. Yes – he’s definitely coming home all right. In fact he left for Manila last week – don’t know if he has sailed yet. He might have to wait for a boat.

Dad – too bad you had to be satisfied with a “2nd” this year in the Shriner’s tournament. However there’s always next year & I’ll be home rootin’ for ya then. That was a nice “try” anyway – 4 strokes is nothing. Your game seems to improve each year.

Yes those shadows in the picture are cast by a camouflage net. It is a rope net garnished with various colored strips of cloth.

You’d be proud if you could see me consume steaks, beef, pork chops, etc. these days. I’ve really grown to like all kinds of meat. Maybe it’s cuz we went without it for so long. We got a beer ration today, & I am now indulging in one, along with a pork chop sandwich.

Nothing’s cooking – censor just happened to hit me this time.
