And at the Paris Olympic Games yesterday: The United States won both 4x400M titles, setting an Olympic record of 2:54.43 in the Men’s race and a North American record of 2:15.27 in the Women’s race.
New Zealand’s Hamish Kerr defeated Shelby McEwen of the United States in the first jump-off in a Men’s Olympic high jump final.
And Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen responded to the shock loss of his 1500M title with victory in the 5000M.
There were 13 gold medal events on the final day of the Paris Olympic Games overnight in:
· Athletics (track and field): W marathon final
· Basketball: W bronze medal and gold medal games
· Handball: M bronze medal and gold medal games
· Modern pentathlon: W final
· Track cycling: M keirin medal finals, W sprint medal finals, W omnium medal final
· Volleyball: W gold medal game
· Water polo: M bronze medal and gold medal games
· Weightlifting: W 81kg+ final
· Wrestling: W freestyle 76kg medal finals
· Closing Ceremony
In Paris Olympic Games Women’s basketball finals – Team USA won its eighth straight Olympic gold medal in a row after beating France 66-67 in a pulsating final overnight.
The win establishes the US Women as the best dynasty in team sports in Olympic Games history.
They are the first team, regardless of gender or sport, to win eight straight Olympic golds, with the gold medal game Team USA’s 61st Olympic win in a row.
With it, Diana Taurasi became the first team sport athlete to ever win six Olympic gold medals.
Lauren Jackson and the Australian Opals 85-81 Belgium for bronze.
In Rugby Union: Former Wales rugby 7s flyer, Louis Rees-Zammit is competing with the Kansas City Chiefs off-season squad to claim a place in their 53-man roster for the 2024 NFL season, and get this “training salary” at US$900,000 a year dwarfs his full professional rugby union contract in the Guinness Premiership of £225,000 a year he earned with Gloucester.
In Rugby League: Dolphins playmaker Sean O’Sullivan booted one of the best field goals of 2024 to down the NZ Warriors 32-34 and put his side back in the Top 8 after a golden point thriller at Suncorp Stadium yesterday.
O’Sullivan called for the ball on the fifth tackle and then launched a left-foot bomb from 43M out on the angle that sailed over to send the home crowd into raptures.
