Deesha Dyer has undoubtedly charted her own path throughout her career. Formerly the White House social secretary for the Obama administration, Deesha got her start by taking a leap of faith and applying to the White House internship program in 2009. Now, she’s an award-winning strategist, on-the-ground community organizer, and executive operations expert, and is the founder and CEO of the social impact agency Hook & Fasten. In her new book Undiplomatic: How My Attitude Created the Best Kind of Trouble, Deesha shares candid stories from her career thus far and peels back the curtain on imposter syndrome. In this interview, we discuss Deesha’s career at the White House from intern to social secretary, combating imposter syndrome, and the message she’s sharing through her first book.
Don’t miss this episode of Claim Your Confidence where we talk about:

  • How Deesha first learned about the White House internship program, her experience applying, and what it was like to enter that environment for the first time
  • The importance of staying grounded while also owning your success and accomplishments
  • Deesha’s roles throughout her time at the White House, including director of hotel logistics and social secretary, and leading by example
  • How there’s no substitute for hard work when it comes to getting recognized and moving up in your career
  • Getting to the root of where your imposter syndrome comes from and how understanding the cause is key to overcoming it
