In the book of Ruth, Ruth's kindness and loyalty towards her mother-in-law, Naomi, are evident throughout the story. Ruth's selfless dedication and care for Naomi are exemplified in Ruth 1:16-17. In Hebrew, the word for kindness is "חֶסֶד" (chesed). Chesed encompasses a range of meanings beyond just kindness; it can also be translated as mercy, loving-kindness, or steadfast love.
