Culture, Community & the Celebration of an A/F Life! with Karina Koplock
Manage episode 380251664 series 3459993
In this episode, Karina shares her personal journey, which began in the United States during her early childhood, up until the age of 9.
At that point, she, her mother and sister embarked on a transformative adventure, relocating to the beautiful country of her mother's homeland, Peru.
Before their move to South America, Karina grappled with the challenge of adapting to life in an American town where Spanish wasn't commonly spoken.
Like any child, she yearned to fit in and, as a result, became somewhat reserved about the language.
In Peru, she could understand the language but struggled with speaking it fluently, which made her feel shy.
Karina candidly recounts her childhood challenges and vulnerabilities with humor and candor.
At the age of 15-16, her mother made the decision to return to the United States, leading Karina to find herself in an entirely different environment in her new home city, Miami, Florida.
Compared to her previous home life in Lima, Peru, Miami proved to be the complete opposite.
During this period, Karina discovered that alcohol was accessible, and although she didn't particularly enjoy the taste, she appreciated how it made her feel in the moment.
Although never relating as a "problem drinker" she now realizes that alcohol became a way to numb the insecurities and shyness.
Notably, it is the socially accepted drug in society.
Karina became curious about moderating and about her relationship with alcohol and on the journey , decided to become a "non drinker"
She is a certified This Naked Mind Coach and is bilingual in Spanish.
She enjoys empowering women in the hispanic community in this cultural context of exploring their relationship with alcohol and its impact on their lives.
