Episode 99 - A Message for Dads - Legacy and what will matter 100 years from now, what will matter
I have a family portrait on my bookshelf of past relatives. I do not know their names, I don't know their story - and although they are strangers to me in this moment, without them, I would not be here. 100 years ago their life was a struggle, the same struggles that we face today, with different context, different struggles and different hopes.
It makes me stop and wonder what will future generations will think of my photo on their bookshelf 100 years from now. Will they know my story, my name, my struggles?
When we live in a busy world - a world that tells us what we need to be successful and what status is. But will any of this help in the future? 100 years from now?
As Dads we need to refocus our attention on things that live on beyond our days. That shiny car in the driveway, your pride and joy will one day be scrapped, that house you cherish will change hands and strangers will live there, strangers that know nothing of you and all of your hard work to own that home.
Let's focus on what our story will be 100 years from now.
