Here I am revisiting a topic from two years ago--actually longer than that, for I did a podcast on this subject in 2022, wrote about it back in 2016. It's still a threat to what's best and good about America.
American culture has lost its ability to discuss, much less disagree or debate. I call it the death of discussion because social trends have led us into a conversational cul-de-sac with no way out.
We’ve come to a point in a so-called post-truth or fake news culture in which polarization is so pronounced we can no longer communicate, resulting in a virtual inability to discuss any social-political issue without becoming defensively partisan, ideological, or upset.
This is a sad phenomenon, one that flies in the face of the spirit of the First Amendment and certainly one that undermines the ongoing health of a constitutional republic.
