Jesus has previously claimed in John 5, that He is equal with God, that He will judge the world, and that He is the only source of life.
In John 5: 32-40, we explore Jesus going on both the offense and defense of these claims. In defense, Jesus calls to witness the Father, the Forerunner in John the Baptist, the Works for Jesus to accomplish, and the Words of Scripture. In John 5:41-47, Jesus goes on the offensive. He speaks on their dependence and hope on the law of Moses, but do not seek Jesus, of whose glory comes from the Father.
