Long before folks enjoyed watching oddball viral videos on the Internet, the only way to see these outrageous movies was to share physical video cassette tapes from person to person.
One of the stars of this tape sharing phenomenon was musician Jan Terri, whose wonderfully weird music videos got the attention of a lot of people, including celebrities Marilyn Manson and his girlfriend at the time Rose McGowan. Manson even had Jan open for him in concert.
After taking some time off for personal reasons, Jan made a spectacular comeback in the early days of YouTube when the video for her song “Losing You” became a hit as the “Worst Music Video Ever.” It still ranks as the top video for the term, with 5.9 million views to date.
Today counterculture legend Jan Terri joins us to look at her roller coaster life in music, putting out a children’s book and a cookbook for folks living in dorms and life as an accidental internet superstar, long before there was an Internet.
