Peter Weir is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. The helmer met with Angelo Acerbi to share some thoughts on his filmmaking and on the inspiration he has been, and still is, for generations of film directors and film goers.

I did my part and I decided to retire

Peter Weir decided four years ago that it was time for him to stop making films and retire. He admits that this decision was easy: ha did his part in the movie world, he could leave the job to younger people.

It is the film that chooses me

With a 40years’ career and “only” 14 films made, Peter Weir tells us how his decisional process works, when it’s time to choose which film to make: the story has to resonate with him, basically the films choose him and not the other way round.
