Earl Barrett shares with us his journey from the start of his career as 16 years old at the 1st Division Manchester City Football Club. Where he was an apprentice soccer player and played for the 2nd and third team while learning his trade. He started to make a name for himself as a professional soccer player while at Oldham Athletic under Manager Joe Royle. Barrett's greatest moment at the club was being part of the Oldham Athletic side that won the Division 2 title in 1991 and promotion to Division 1 (which became the FA Premier League a year later).

Towards the end of his Oldham career, he was catching the eye of England’s coaching staff and was drafted into an England U21 Team for a Tournament in Toulon, France. Where they won the Tournament!

After all of the accolades, Earl Barrett had no idea what was in store for him down the road after a horrible injury that ended his career, in the sport he had loved and adored for 16yrs. "I was not prepared or ready for the end of my career I had lost my confidence and way in the world", Being shown the door with no preparation for the real world was not was expected Barrett shares with us. "My career was over in what seemed like 16 seconds!

He exclaims 6-8 months of darkness can be mentally debilitating and scary. However, being the athlete of his time Barrett was able to pick himself up and decided to go back to school to study.

He studied for 5 years in between getting involved in coaching then eventually gaining a BSC in Sports Coaching and Exercise Science. Another proud moment in his life!

From there he began to believe in himself again and directed himself down the coaching pathway, which led him to coach at several football clubs such as Manchester City FC, Bury FC, Salford College, Oldham Athletic FC, and Stoke City Academy.

After 7 years at Stoke City FC Academy, he decided that it was the time to come to America! Now Earl Barrett lives in Houston Texas and is a Director and coach for Rise Soccer Club.
