Manage episode 355838013 series 2661150
Domestic abuse, also referred to as domestic violence, will affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in their lifetime. Government statistics show, that domestic abuse currently leads to 2 women being murdered each week, and 30 men per year. The Office of National Statistics states that around 42% of domestic abuse related incidents and crimes, are not reported by the victims, for various reasons. Many victims start a relationship with their abuser without knowing whether their abuser has a past history of having abused others. We looked at how you can protect yourself from being with a serial abuser, either before you enter in to a relationship, or if you need to try and find out if your partner, or perhaps a member of your family's new partner, has any history of domestic abuse. In this episode, Hatti Suvari and leading senior Barrister Simon Spence KC, bring you key information on how you can find out more about your partners, or ex-partners past from the authorities to see whether they have been involved in domestic abuse. Whether you are a victim, or if you know someone who is a victim of domestic abuse, we hope that the free information in this episode will assist and empower all victims to get help. #domesticabuse #domesticviolence #clareslaw #dbs #disclosure #gethelpdomesticviolence #gethelpdomesticabuse #legallearning #legaleducation #simonspencekc #hattisuvari #getlegallyspeaking Hosted on Acast.
