In the Hillsboro School District, we are committed to all students graduating career and college ready. Not only is it the district’s mission, it’s our passion and commitment to students and the broader community. Our school counselors and career and technical education teachers play an integral role in the achievement of this mission each and every day.

National School Counseling Week will be celebrated from February 5th through 9th, 2024 to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems, as well as how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. This year’s theme is "School Counseling: Standards-Based, Student-Focused." National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

Please celebrate the imperative work of the 64 school counselors, 10 Student Support & Wellness Counselors and 4 Mental Health Care Coordinators in HSD!

February is also National Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, sponsored by the Association for Career and Technical Education. Specifically, this month, we recognize the contributions of our CTE teachers and their pivotal role in the development of CTE programming in HSD. These dedicated educators are instrumental in shaping the future of our students. They provide hands-on training, real-world skills, and valuable insights into a variety of career paths, ensuring our students are well-prepared for success in today's job market. CTE teachers not only bridge the skills gap but also inspire innovation and creativity in our classrooms. Their commitment to excellence empowers students to discover their passions and chart a course toward a prosperous future.

Please celebrate the career-connected work of the 45 CTE educators in our 35 Career and Technical Education programs in HSD!

Our Featured Event was a visit to Liberty High School’s Sustainable Agriculture and Sustainable Design programs on Thursday, January 25th by Oregon’s U.S. Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici. Students and staff talked to the Congresswoman about their unique classroom spaces and Falcon Farm, and the opportunities they have to grow and sell produce and related products, as well as design and construct items with the environment in mind. A very cool thing they did with her was show her how they turn some of the corn they grow into yummy tortillas! As one student worked on hand-grinding the kernels that had been treated with calcium hydroxide, two others were mixing that fresh masa with a bit of store-bought masa flour, water, and salt to make tortillas. Still other students cooked the tortillas and added some cheese on top then set them out for fellow students and the guests to top with a variety of salsas that students had previously made! See pictures on our website.
