Early in 2024, artist Roman Tkachenko stayed in VHDG Lokaal: residency space. During two months, Roman researched what role an artist can have within activism. For example, he invited members of various (local) activist groups to the residency space to eat together and talk about activism.
The research period concluded with a bicycle tour “Activist's Routes,” which involved cycling a route in Leeuwarden under the guidance of Dirk Kuiken. The route is part of an alternative map of Leeuwarden compiled by Roman and several local activists.
Following Roman's residency and leading up to the exhibition Gemeentegoed, the collective Lange Adem was formed. Initiator Roman Tkachenko is working with local activist groups and residents of Leeuwarden on several manifestations that will take place in Leeuwarden, Netherlands in the spring of 2024.
