I know....I know. I was originally supposed to post this up back in late June but some things came so this was delayed. In this episode, we discuss the service cuts from 2010 that occurred due to a multi-million dollar deficit. More than a dozen bus routes were discontinued, shortened, and/or rerouted/extended to provide cover for another route that was eliminated. The (V) and (W) trains were discontinued (the (W) returned as of November 7th, 2016). The (G) was cut from Queens Boulevard. The (M) was rerouted via the Chrystie Street tunnel, bypassing Lower East Side-2nd Av, operating along 6th Ave, 53rd St, and Queens Blvd via LOCAL. Service south of Essex St was discontinued. Honestly, I believe that the bus redesigns that the MTA is doing for each borough will restore coverage for routes and/or segments that was slashed in 2010. Nassau was also affected by the service cuts for their bus system. The Staten Island Railway (SIR) no longer served the Stadium stop. Thomas Prendergast was NYCT President, Jay Walder was the MTA Chairman/CEO, and David Paterson was governor during that time. Please listen to the full episode and enjoy.
