This week I chat with Briannah Fisher, an Aussie who moved to North Vancouver British Columbia Canada at the start of the pandemic. Moving your family across the world at any time is challenging but moving from sprawling acreage on the Northern Rivers in Australia to a 75 square metre apartment in Canada at the start of a lockdown takes it to the next level!

Briannah and I discuss the need for her to re-brand herself in Canada and how she now describes herself as a marketing swiss army knife as a way to differentiate her skills and experience in her new country.

Describing her university experience as learning how to learn, Briannah certainly did a lot of learning studying Law, Economics, Nursing, Biomedical Science, Psychology, Education and Chemistry before graduating from James Cook University with a New Arts Media degree.

Graduating with this degree in 2011 meant Briannah was ahead of the curve in the digital media space and we talk about how the stigma that was once associated with Arts degrees has shifted with those soft skills now some of the most sought after by employers.

Not long after landing in Canada, Briannah founded Made in Vancouver, an online magazine celebrating Vancouver’s creatives, makers, doers and dreamers. This desire to help nurture the rebuilding of an economy in her adoptive country is truly remarkable.

Briannah’s enthusiasm is infectious and you won’t be able to stop smiling while listening to her fascinating story. If you would like to know more about Briannah you can follow her on LinkedIn
