THE ACOUSTIC CAFÉ is a fortnightly program featuring a mix of singer – songwriter, Celtic, Cajun, global roots, traditional and contemporary folk, blues, country blues, bluegrass, country, old timey and Americana music from Australia and around the world. Live to air, 8pm, every second Tuesday.
In his edition of The Acoustic Café we hear music from Blaze Foley, Anna Tivel, Cherish the Ladies, Woodstock Mountains Revue, Kathryn Tickell, Eliza Gilkyson, Mick Hanley, John Craigie, Ossian, Happy Traum, Kevin Burke, Paul Wookey, Steeleye Span, C.W. Stoneking, Dave Van Ronk, Ten Strings and a Goat Skin, Guy Clark, Sierra Ferrell.
The recorded live segment of the show features a group of local north east Victoria musicians who started playing music together back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. The music was a mix of Scottish fiddle tunes, Australian folk music and bluegrass. The core group was Peter Lenne, Laurie Grundy, Mike Bernard, Barry Ross and Tom Leech. They never came up with an official name for their group, they simply referred to themselves as ‘The Band’. Over a period of 20 years they played at Bright, Porepunkah, Wandiligong, Harrietvlle, Beechworth and Mudgegonga. Occasionally the music was recorded on tapes. A selection from those tapes is featured on this show.
