The 3+2 Seas Initiative: Connectivity Through the Middle Corridor and the Three Seas Initiative. The Russo-Ukrainian war shocked global markets and supply chains, undermining traditional transport routes. An alternative to the Northern Corridor emerged in the Turkic world – the Middle Corridor that could potentially cut transit times for goods between China and Europe to 15 days. To reach Western markets, Eastern goods need to pass along another emerging economic corridor – the Three Seas Initiative’s network of states. The Hungarian Institute of International Affairs proposes a dialogue between think-tanks and leading experts of the two corridors, to discuss the potentials of bridging the two commercial zones and creating a transportation and energy hub on the crossroads of East and West, highlighting possible challenges such as infrastructural deficits or the lack of legal interconnectivity. This is the 3+2 Seas Initiative, on the sides of which Dr. Mihai Sebe, Head of Unit at the European Institute of Romania and Dr. Sándor Seremet, Senior Research Fellow of Hungarian Institute of International Affairs discuss prospects of interconnectivity between the two corridors. The interview was made by Dr. Péter Pál Kránitz, Senior Research Fellow at HIIA. The Budapest Outlook is the podcast channel of the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs.
