Big Idea of the Message: The church was born out of the creative action of God, the
outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
Application Point: Each Christian relies on the Spirit for renewed life, just as we rely
on the Spirit to enliven our local church. As you consider church growth strategies,
visitor integration techniques, programs, and budgets, remember that the first church
wasn’t created by clever strategies or techniques but by the actions of God the Spirit.
Discussion Questions:
1. What is one thing that stood out to you from this week’s message?
2. What similarities do you see between God creating the world and God
creating the church?
3. What are some of the symbols of Pentecost that stand out to you, that
confuse you, or that are meaningful to you?
4. How would you describe, in your own words, what happened at
Pentecost?
5. Think back to the illustration of a lamp, which needs to be plugged in to a
power source to work. In what ways do you “plug in” to the Spirit? In what
ways can you grow in this area?
6. How can you, your family, and your church continue to rely on the Spirit—
not human wisdom—for future growth and direction?
