Ossoff continuing to pressure postal service to fix mail delays
U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is confronting the United States Postal Service over mail delivery delays focused around the newly opened Palmetto distribution center in Atlanta. After revealing in a Senate hearing that a mere 36% of mail was arriving on time, Ossoff has demanded an update from Postmaster General Louis DeJoy within one week. DeJoy cites a USPS restructuring plan aimed at financial self-sufficiency and competitive edge over private shippers as the root cause of these delays. This plan, however, has faced significant hiccups at the Palmetto and a Richmond, Va., center, stalling nationwide expansion efforts. Here is DeJoy on the mail delays:
