My family used to camp at the Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores Alabama. There was a freshwater lake that was always full of fishing boats. I was determined to fish on that lake, but I had a few obstacles to overcome, such as, dad said my cane pole at home was too long for the car, there were no bait shops nearby, and I was eight years old without a boat. So I earned enough money to buy a three-piece cane pole for two dollars. I dug up earthworms the day before our next camping trip. I doubt very seriously that my sisters knew they rode in the car with a Folgers can full of worms near their feet.
The next morning, before the sun came up, I was headed down the gravel road with my fishing gear to the small, covered marina. I watched as fishermen got into their boats and headed out on the lake. As the last boat pulled out, I started baiting my hook and fishing where the boats had been. I could see those boats on the lake, and I wished that I was in one of them, but suddenly, my red bobber started dancing. I started catching fish! It was a hot morning, but I sat in the shade, fishing away. Later, as the boats started returning, one man asked if I’d caught anything. I held up a stringer full of fish and he said, “You caught more fish than we did and never left the dock!”
Jesus told Peter to follow Him and he would become a fisher of men, so remember, you don’t have to have a fancy spiritual boat to be a successful fisherman. Just fish, right where you are. Grab your cane pole and keep your eye on that red bobber.
