When Jesus speaks to the Samaritan woman at the well, we can only imagine the social and emotional tensions in play. This woman meets a man she assumes will approach her with judgment from her social status or from the shame of her past - just as we all have personal and generational challenges. But instead of meeting judgment she meets the Messiah she has been waiting for and Jesus offers grace and love.
The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ)“is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
