In this episode we get into the harrowing crisis of missing and murdered Native American and Alaska Native individuals. For decades, communities have faced disproportionately high rates of assault, abduction, and murder. Community advocates trace this tragic legacy back to generations of systemic violence and government policies of forced removal and land seizures.
A 2016 study by the National Institute of Justice revealed that over 84% of American Indian and Alaska Native women have experienced violence, with more than half enduring sexual violence. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that homicide is a leading cause of death for AI/AN women aged 1-45 and AI/AN males aged 1-54. Native communities also face significant challenges in human trafficking, both sex and labor.
We share the heart-wrenching stories of Shacaiah Blue Harding, Alex Lawson, and Tammy Nattaway, three individuals who remain missing, highlighting the relentless search efforts by their families and communities. These stories underscore the urgent need for greater awareness, resources, and action to address this crisis.
Join us as we explore these haunting tales and shed light on the ongoing plight of Native American and Alaska Native communities.
