Writer Of The Second Letter To The Corinthians: “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,” 2 Corinthians 1:1a Paul is clearly the author of 2 Corinthians. This is made evident in the opening verse, as it is also in 2 Corinthians 10:1 where he wrote: “Now I myself, Paul, urge you...” Paul included Timothy in the opening greeting and address. Timothy had worked at Paul's side in Corinth when Paul started the church there during his second missionary journey (cf. Acts 18:5; 2 Corinthians 1:19). From Ephesus, where Paul had written his First Letter to the Corinthians, Paul sent Timothy on a mission to the churches which would bring him to the church in Corinth (cf. 1 Corinthians 16:8,10,11). Paul anticipated that Timothy would arrive in Corinth after Paul's first letter had been received by the congregation. Timothy was then to rejoin Paul in Ephesus. Timothy did rejoin Paul, for he was with Paul when the Second Letter to the Corinthians was written. Timothy brought Paul the latest news of the troubled affairs in the Corinthian congregation. Whatever information Timothy brought to Paul was most likely made use of in writing the second letter.
