We sat down with Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages of Assembly District 22 for a compelling conversation on her work as a New York State legislator and her efforts to create meaningful change in her community. We delved into her role in passing a bill to study the impact of reparations further, exploring how historical injustices can be addressed to build a more equitable future. Assemblywoman Solages also shared her insights on how power operates within the state, including the significance of the Clean Slate Bill in giving individuals a second chance and removing barriers to opportunity.
We discussed the Crown Act, a vital piece of legislation that fights discrimination based on natural hair and ensures that all New Yorkers are treated with respect regardless of how they wear their hair. Additionally, Assemblywoman Solages provided a behind-the-scenes look at the role of the Speaker of the House and the influence they hold in shaping policy at the state level.
Join us for an enlightening conversation about the challenges of policymaking, the victories that empower communities, and how civic engagement can create real, lasting change.
