The 2019 UK General Election saw the Conservative Party win a host of constituencies in Labour's heartlands of the North of England and North East Wales. These seats had become collectively known as 'The Red Wall' during the campaign and their loss was to cause the Labour Party to reflect seriously on its connection with many of these former industrial areas. To discuss the permanence (or not) of this change of allegiance and the societal, economic, and electoral factors that underpinned it, we are joined by Dr Thomas Prosser of Cardiff University, Phil Collins of The Draft and The New Statesman, and Paula Surridge of the University of Bristol and Deputy Director of the UK in a Changing Europe project. You follow the latest from our guests on Twitter: Dr Thomas Prosser: twitter.com/prossertj Phillip Collins: twitter.com/PhilipJCollins1 Paula Surridge: twitter.com/p_surridge And, of course, us: twitter.com/golau_podcast If you’re enjoying Golau please subscribe, rate, and review in your podcast player of choice.
