LGBTQ Activist Phillip Schnarrs Ph.D. -- Past GM KPFT -- National Leather Association Houston
We speak with LGBT activist, Phillip Schnarrs. We speak the work he is doing to improve the lives of LGBT Texans.Phillip W. Schnarrs, Ph.D., is an associate professor of community-based participatory research in the Department of Population Health. He is an applied health researcher and expert in LGBTQ+ populations specializing in sexual health, mental health and substance use disorder.As an applied scientist engaged in community-based participatory research, Schnarrs engages the community as co-collaborators throughout the research process and develops meaningful programs to address the health of marginalized populations and shift social policies that contribute to mistreatment and discrimination of these groups.

Then, we speak with a past general manager of KPFT, Mary Helen Merzbacher about her work on the radio and experiences working at KPFT. KPFT was born in Houston about 50 years ago. In the late 1960s, Houston was still behind the times, meaning certain stories were ignored by the media and the ruling classes.

We speak with the current president, Sir Robert Conn and the current treasurer Christopher Daniel about the organization and their upcoming event, Spring Iniquity XXXI and 10th Annual Houston Spirit of Leather Awards Dinner which is taking place in April. The National Leather Association – Houston was established as an organization dedicated to empowering and defending individuals, organizations, publications, and businesses within the Leather, BDSM, Fetish communities against threats to their freedom of expression, freedom of the press, the right of free association and right to equal protection under the law.
