Keeping up Appearances
Manage episode 384632036 series 3486008
This marks Episode 1 of our new series on religious trauma. **TRIGGER WARNING**
We’re going to be covering some pain points that have contributed (and continue to contribute) to religious trauma. We’ll cover the origin of those topics, what form they still take in the church today, and we’ll even have some bonus episodes with guest co-hosts.
Some of the things you can expect in this series: the emphasis on outward appearance (this episode), diet/SDA health message, gender roles and obsession with hierarchy, the psychology behind religious trauma, and more.

- Jesus was clearly interested in what is in our hearts- the inner self vs the outer appearance. One can “check off all the boxes” of what they think a Christian is supposed to “look like” but can be misrepresenting Christ with how they treat others, etc. Then this thought can also be weaponized.
