In 1950 Timothy Evans was accused of murdering his wife Beryl, and their baby girl, Geraldine. Timothy, a simple man who couldn’t read or write, lived with his little family in London’s Notting Hill district in the top floor flat. He refuted the accusations, instead claiming that it was actually his downstairs neighbour, John Christie, who killed his wife and daughter during a botched home abortion.

John Christie was a World War 1 and 2 veteran who lived in the ground floor flat with his wife, Ethel. He would serve as the chief prosecutor’s witness during Timothy’s murder trial, where Timothy was ultimately convicted and sentenced to hang. But just three years after Timothy’s execution, a shocking discovery would be made. Bodies would be discovered in the walls and under the floorboards of John’s ground-floor flat.

Had Timothy been telling the truth about his neighbour being the real killer? Was this respected war veteran, John Christie, actually a serial killer, who framed Timothy for murder? And what impact would all of this have on England’s justice system?
