  • The Northern Virginia Family Service, a nonprofit organization since its inception in 1924, is now almost 100 years in service to families and local communities. NVSF has evolved from handing out coal and coats during the Great Depression to assisting over 35,000 families and individuals every year. They offer foster care and adoption services, immigration legal services, mental health, workforce development like Escala, and lots more.
  • Kathleen McMahon is the Executive Vice President for Development and Communications at Northern Virginia Family Service. She directs resources, supports over 325 employees in 13 regional locations, and drives strategies for all private philanthropic fundraising. She previously worked at the Student Conservation Association (SCA) as the Senior Director, was the Chief Operating Officer & Chief of Staff at Civic Enterprises, and was the Program Development Specialist at Work, Achievement, Values & Education, Inc. (WAVE). Kathleen is a Change Agent and Social Sector Leader and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with an MSc degree in NGO/Nonprofit Leadership. She is also a member of Leadership Greater Washington’s Class of 2022 and a mother to three daughters.
