Manage episode 329634568 series 3335588
In this inspiring two part episode of the dripdrop podcast, Ed Crasnick chats with special guest and Life Expert Mike Shoreman, the Unbalanced Paddleboarder.
In 2018 Mike Shoreman lost his mobility and all sense of balance due to a neurological disorder, Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, and was told that he would never paddle again. His whole world changed. He was challenged mentally, emotionally and physically.
Spoiler Alert : After almost a year of physiotherapy and retraining his brain to walk again, he stood up. And this summer he’s crossing all 5 Great Lakes on a paddle board in support of Canada's #1 Youth Mental Health Organisation Jack.org.
This is the first time it’s been attempted since 1988 and the first time it will be done by a person with a disability.
In Part 2, Mike Shoreman dives into
- Crossing the Great Lakes;
- His work with Jack.Org and the Tyler Clementi Foundation;
- His relationship with his father;
- His book, “Crash & Rise from Victim to Thriving Survivor,” a diary of going through a mental health journey.
“Practising gratitude for what I do have, makes the hard days easier.” - Mike Shoreman
