Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for December 27th.

Now that Christmas has come and gone, it’s time to shift gears slightly—while still enjoying the magic of the season.

Speaking of magic, today is National Make Cut-Out Snowflakes Day! Whether you’re a seasoned pro with scissors or someone who still accidentally cuts the middle out completely, today’s all about embracing creativity, imperfection, and a bit of childlike wonder.

To celebrate, I’ve chosen a quote by Vincent Van Gogh:

"What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?"

Cut-out snowflakes are a perfect metaphor for this idea. Think about it—you take a plain sheet of paper, make a few daring snips, and voilà! You’ve got something unique, intricate, and maybe a little uneven, but beautiful nonetheless. It’s like art therapy for the indecisive.

There’s something courageous about diving in without knowing exactly how it’ll turn out. Will the snowflake look like a masterpiece? Or will it resemble the aftermath of a particularly messy paper shredder? Either way, you’re creating, and that’s the point.

Van Gogh’s words remind us that courage isn’t about knowing the outcome—it’s about being willing to try. When you think about it, life is just one giant cut-out snowflake. Each decision you make, each risk you take, shapes who you are. Sometimes things don’t align perfectly, but even the "mistakes" add character.

And hey, if your snowflake doesn’t turn out great today, just call it “abstract” and move on. After all, art is subjective, right?

So today, grab some paper, some scissors, and a little courage. Make something uniquely yours. Remember, the beauty lies not just in the final creation but in the process itself.

Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for today. I’ll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station, to share another bit of inspiration to brighten your day. Until then, keep snipping, stay courageous, and remember—you’re a masterpiece in progress.

And I'll see you tomorrow for another Daily Quote.
