Recorded on location, expect to hear rainforest sounds ;)

Costa Rica is heralded as 'the' ecotourism destination and it should be commended for reversing deforestation, and it's biodiversity, but this isn't the whole story...

A destination which often conjures up images of cloud forests, pristine jungle, and gorgeous beaches, not everything is 'pura vida' here. Did you know? Costa Rica is the country that uses the most pesticides per hectare, according to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Specifically, the increase is linked to three crops: banana, coffee, and pineapple.

That's why we travelled to Finca Luna Nueva Lodge (aka the Mother Moon) the pioneers of soil health, serving 100% organic food and who are hands down the leaders in conscious travel in Costa Rica.

In this episode with Kimberly Farrell, general manager at Finca Luna Nueva we talk about greenwashing, the detrimental effects of heavy pesticide, and how we can work with the land to draw down carbon.

What you'll learn in this episode:

  • Why I chose to visit this particular eco-lodge above any other in the country
  • Why everything begins with the soil and how this influences the feeling of a place
  • What regenerative farming is and it's importance to climate change
  • The connection between the health of the soil, the food we eat, and our well-being
  • How Finca Luna Nueva engages guests through living classroom experiences
