You know that feeling you get when you open up your favorite social media app to waste time on, you see someone else’s highlight reel, and begin comparing it to your behind-the-scenes moments? That feeling of insecurity, lack of purpose or identity, of not feeling “good enough”? I’ve been there too.
Hi, I’m Quentin Bemis, a pastor at Sherwood Oaks, with this week’s Minute Message.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the comparison game. We see someone else’s success and immediately call to mind all of those times we have fallen short.
Paul gives us two great reminders in Ephesians chapter 2 to help us in these moments. In verse 4 & 5 Paul says that “because of God’s great love and his rich mercy, he has made us alive together with Christ, by grace we have been saved.” And then in verse 10 he tells us that we were “God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.”
So when you feel those comparison insecurities creep in and your own personal fail montage takes center stage, remember: God doesn’t see your mistakes, he sees the new life of Christ in you. You have been made for a Kingdom purpose. Go walk in confidence today, knowing who sees you as His greatest creation.
