The 2nd Day of Christmas: The Feast of St. Stephen, Proto-Martyr (1st of 3 Companions of Christ): Martyr of Will & Deed), Matins - December 26
Manage episode 457599862 series 3353628
On December 26th, the 2nd Day of Christmas, the Church celebrates the Feast of St. Stephen, the first (proto) martyr of the faith after the Ascension of our Lord. He is considered a martyr both of will and deed, meaning he was willing to die for the faith and in fact did so. Celebrating his feast day right after Christmas reminds us that Christ's birth was for the purpose of dying for our sins; and as we die with Him, so also will we rise with Him.
St. Stephen is the 1st feast of the three companions of Christ during the 12 days of Christmas.
