Everyone experiences fan conventions differently, but author and movie reviewer Marshall Julius is anything but your typical attendee at New York Comic Con 2019. Armed with his soon-to-be-published quiz book, Vintage Geek , and bags full of collapsible "Pulp Heroes" from Far Out Toys to hand out to appreciative con attendees, Marshall made his NYCC experience all about meeting people, sharing his love of geek culture, and adding to his Darth Vader collection. Marshall spoke to us about his time in New York just after returning to London where he freelances and reviews movies for BBC Radio. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.…

Saturday was a big day at San Diego Comic Con, and Den of Geek editor-in-chief Mike Cecchini joins us to talk about the huge news coming from Marvel in Hall H and from DC in Ballroom 20. The biggest surprises came from casting announcements, specifically the last minute lead role for Simu Liu in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the double whammy of Blade coming to the MCU and the casting of two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali in the title role, and of course the shocking appearance of Natalie Portman as the new Thor. Mike also talks about some exciting developments for DCTV as the Crisis on Infinite Earths has its own casting surprises in store with a series of cameos. Hosted on Acast. Movies Editor David Crow joins us to talk about a couple of highlights from his first day at San Diego Comic Con this year including a couple of amazing panels. We start off discussing New Line's popular ScareDiego horror event, which this year was devoted entirely to IT: Chapter Two, directed by Andy Muschietti, who was in attendance. David breaks down some favorite anecdotal moments from the panel as well as what we learned from the trailer. We then move on to our magazine cover story, Terminator: Dark Fate, which David says earns its R-rating both with the highlights shared and the f-bombs dropped throughout the panel. A surprise guest made an appearance as well! Stay tuned from more from San Diego Comic Con 2019 in future episodes. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.…

The final edition of The Den of Geek Podcast includes mostly TV and film news this time. We start by going over the calendar for television premieres in the coming months and move on to the revival in the works for Northern Exposure as well as Travel Channel's Legends of the Lost with Megan Fox. In movie news, we go over some of the advance impressions of the much anticipated Aquaman from DC before switching over to Marvel for a look at a Spider-Women animated movie in development. Then it's over to Netflix for a discussion of a slate of Roald Dahl animated adaptations in development. Finally, we're very excited to share with you our interview with George Takei, whose Broadway musical, Allegiance , inspired by his real-life experience with Japanese-American internment camps during World War II, is headed to a theater near you via Fathom Events. G! News is being phased out in favor of a new podcast coming in 2019! Stay tuned for more exciting behind-the-scenes content from your favorite movies, TV shows, games, comics, and more! Then it's on to Star Trek where we share our glee at the return of Jean-Luc Picard, and we check in with the Arrowverse for the upcoming Elseworlds crossover event. Add to that a breakdown of the Warcraft 3: Reforged announcement, a quick look at some upcoming Christmas movies, and a review of Widows to wrap up the discussion. Last is our interview with the co-author of The Jekyll Island Chronicles , Steve Nedvidek, to talk about the diesel-punk superheroes in his graphic novel series. Hosted on Acast. It's New York Comic Con season, and quite a few of our stories come from panel announcements and interviews. We have news from a Mortal Engines interview with Peter Jackson and a panel for The Boys on Amazon Prime Video, and we share a list of highlights from the convention in general. With Halloween approaching, we simply had to talk about some lesser known horror classics. We also go through part of the list of Rock Hall of Fame nominees, paying close attention to some of our favorites. And lastly, we marvel over the fact that Supernatural is still going and talk about why that might be. Finally, our bonus item is an interview with Chin Han, who plays billionaire visionary Zhao Long Ji in the Dwayne Johnson action vehicle, Skyscraper , which recently released on DVD and Blu-ray. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.…

Then in TV news, Maniac on Netflix blurs the lines between cinema and television, and Veronica Mars gets the revival green light from Hulu. We each select one story from gaming, television, and movies for this edition of the podcast. In the world of video games, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has brought forth a strong contender in the battle royale arena, and Fortnite expands into toy spin-offs with a Nerf line-up and a custom Monopoly experience. In movies, we look back at a couple of franchises: The Predator needs to call it a day, but Candyman might get new life from Jordan Peele. Television news includes a look back at the "NuWho" Doctor Who before the new season starts and a sneak peek at what Netflix is bringing to New York Comic Con. The bonus item is a discussion with Patrick Corcoran, VP and Chief Communications Officer of the National Association of Theatre Owners, about how the moviegoing experience is alive and well despite streaming growth. It's time to tackle whitewashing, the glut of streaming services, and toxic fandom head-on (but in a lighthearted way)! As we applaud the success of Crazy Rich Asians , we raise an eyebrow to the DC Universe debut and reflect upon the uproar surrounding the Battlestar Galactica reboot and an entitled audience. Other stories this month include a look at the premise of NBC's Manifest , speculation on what the Monument Valley animated movie in development will look like, and the often-overlooked but visionary work by Alfred Hitchcock, Rope . Our bonus item is an interview with Andrew Bujalski, screenwriter and director of Support the Girls . Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.…

Le Guin novella in development, disagree with a review of The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society , and speculate on the ramifications of Luigi's death in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate . Finally, join Daniel Kurland as he interviews Todd Berger, the screenwriter for the upcoming film, The Happytime Murders . Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.…

We also cover extended content for Dr. Horrible (comic) and Star Trek: Discovery (webisodes). Our bonus item is a chat with associate editor of Den of Geek, Kayti Burt, who moderated the Wynonna Earp panel at SDCC and shares with us why the fandom of this niche show is so strong. This edition of G! News takes a detour to explore the reports coming out of San Diego Comic-Con in advance of the biggest industry convention of its kind for 2018. Instead of touching on specific articles from the Den of Geek website, we bring in an expert: Leonard Sultana of anenglishmaninsandiego.com . Leonard shares his thoughts on how to best enjoy the convention despite the lack of a presence from heavyweights, Marvel Studios, HBO, and Star Wars . Topics discussed include Breaking Bad , Halloween , Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse , activations, cosplay, and more. Get news and advice from someone who really knows San Diego Comic-Con!
